Backing up physical files on a specific computer to an alternate save location is an old-fashioned method.

We need to ensure business continuity when key players must compute, which might mean anything from accessing a file to engaging in a conversation or meeting.

To accomplish a sure-thing scenario, we need to empower our colleagues with alternate methods, such as an alternate machine to jump onto in the case of urgency. Your worker might have a desktop at the office or a laptop at home, but my suggestion is that they should have both; either another desktop computer or another laptop computer, or both combinations should be available in the case of emergency.

Of course, duplicate copies of your data should always be available. Your Microsoft 365 data is backup up inherently, but Exchange, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint should remain under a constant cloud backup in the case of accidental deletion.

I have two Windows desktop machines, one Microsoft Surface laptop machine, two Apple Macbook Air M2 laptops (13″ and 15″), one iPad, and two smartphones (one Samsung Android and one Apple iPhone 15 Pro). And I am a sole proprietor using a Microsoft 365 Enterprise E5 subscription that is backed up to the cloud with SkyKick. Redundancy is key.
